The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Young People For (YP4) is a strategic long-term leadership development program that identifies, engages and empowers the newest generation of progressive leaders to create lasting change in their communities.
Our yearlong fellowship program for college students kicks off with a five-day National Summit in Washington, D.C. and provides organizational and financial support for executing meaningful social justice work.

They come from community colleges, state universities, historically black colleges and universities, tribal colleges, liberal arts colleges and Ivy League universities... a total of 86 campuses in 29 states.
